“A career is about more than just a job title; it is about finding a way to lead with character and purpose.”

Moderating the Face to Face speaker forum with Senator Mitt Romney was a deeply meaningful experience. It was a privilege to guide a conversation shaped by what students genuinely care about, including navigating uncertain career paths, acting with moral courage, and the issues shaping our generation. Bringing a clear student perspective to that dialogue while drawing on what the Program for Leadership and Character has taught me made for an incredible experience.

The most surprising part of my time at Wake Forest was how much the collective spirit of this community redefined my understanding of shared experience. I expected to find a rigorous academic environment, but I did not expect the level of support and presence I found in my peers. Whether it was the energy of a celebration on the quad or the way students show up for one another during difficult weeks, there is a consistent sense of looking out for the person next to you. It was a surprise to realize that my most meaningful growth came from these moments of shared purpose rather than just my individual accomplishments.

I wish I could have told myself that it is okay for your plans to evolve and that your major doesn’t have to define your entire identity. While it is important to stay focused on your goals, remain open to the experiences that challenge your perspective. My time here taught me that a career is about more than just a job title; it is about finding a way to lead with character and purpose. Engage deeply with this community and do not be afraid to choose a path that feels more holistic, even if it looks different than what you originally imagined.

Entering Wake Forest, I was a prospective finance major with a singular focus: securing a role at a bank after graduation. While I am indeed graduating with a degree in finance, I recently chose to turn down a banking offer to accept a fellowship here at the University. My time at Wake Forest shifted my perspective, teaching me the value of pursuing a more holistic career path. There is no better place than this community to begin putting that into practice.

Storming the court after we beat Duke in basketball two years ago. We waited in line for hours to secure seats in the lower bowl, and that victory made every minute worth it. It felt as though the entire student body was on the court together, celebrating as one.
