2024 student art-acquisition trip selections unveiled

Every four years since 1963, a small group of students has traveled to New York City, with University funds, to purchase art for Wake Forest’s Student Union art collection. This year they purchased nine works.
Wake Forest students decorate desks for children

A Wake Forest University practice field will soon be transformed into an outdoor art studio to create personalized study spaces for kids. It’s part of an education initiative called Developing Education through Student Knowledge or DESK. “It’s really what the kids envision, what makes them comfortable and inspires them to work on their homework and accomplish their academic goals,” said WFU senior Melanie Cionfolo, one of the DESK directors.
Wake ‘N Shake dance marathon set for March 23

More than a thousand Wake Forest University students will put on their dancing shoes to raise funds for cancer research and support those impacted by the disease.“This year we’re going with the space theme and our slogan is ‘mission to the cure’,” said senior Jamie Wander, who is also a student director. “We are really focusing on making this an interactive event.”
Students get ‘Face to Face’ with Liz Cheney

“We are facing a threat we have not faced before in our country, and it is going to take the commitment of young people, not just to advocate for the causes you believe in, but actually to make sure you go and vote,” said Former U.S. Representative Liz Cheney during the Face to Face student-led event on February 22. Wake Forest Leadership and Character Scholars seniors Cheyenne Surin-Bullard, a health and exercise science major, and Rucker Robinson, who is majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology, moderated the conversation in Wait Chapel.
Wake Forest senior named Yenching Scholar

Senior history major Oscar Bray has been selected for the prestigious Yenching Scholars Program at the Yenching Academy of Peking University in Beijing, China. The program is a globally recognized postgraduate initiative that offers outstanding young scholars a unique and interdisciplinary graduate education aimed at fostering global perspectives.
Wake Forest announces MLK ‘Building the Dream’ award winners

Senior Rute Ayalew was named a 2024 Martin Luther King Jr. “Building the Dream” award winner. Ayalew is committed to expanding access and belongingness for women and people of color in computer science and is involved with Housing Justice Now, a nonprofit that supports low-income tenants and advocates for broader just housing systems across Forsyth County.
Project Pumpkin will welcome hundreds of local children to campus

Hearn Plaza at Wake Forest University will soon be filled with young children donning colorful Halloween costumes as part of Project Pumpkin. Alyssa Goldstein, a senior from Hillsborough, New Jersey, has been involved with Project Pumpkin for the past three years. In her role as “head pumpkin,” she has learned a lot about managing budgets, collaborating across campus and working with local organizations.
Wake Forest University gets set to “Hit the Bricks”

More than 1,700 Wake Forest students, faculty, staff and friends of the University will run laps around Hearn Plaza on Thursday, Oct. 5, for Hit the Bricks. “It will be a high energy day with music, live performances and speakers to encourage people throughout the day,” said senior Abby Draeger from Boston, who is the executive director of the event.
